Bereits die Fahrt zum Gelmersee ist atemberaubend, wortwörtlich. Die Gelmerbahn ist die steilste offene Standseilbahn in Europa und bringt dich in 12 Minuten zum blauen Gelmersee mit wunderschönen Wasserfällen und hoch ragenden Bergen rundum.
Erreichbarkeit: Mit dem Auto gelangst du von Interlaken in ca. einer Stunde bis zur Talstation der Gelmerbahnen in Guttannen. Es sind einige Parkplätze vorhanden.
Mit dem öffentlichen Verkehr gelangst du mit Zug und Bus bis zur Haltestation Handegg, Gelmerbahn.
Gelmerbahn: Bei schönem Wetter und in den Ferien hat die Bahn einen grossen Andrang. Auch sonst ist es ratsam, sich einen Platz in der Bahn zu reservieren. Da pro Fahrt nur 24 Personen bis zum Gelmersee transportiert werden können.
Ansonsten musst du mit sehr langen Wartezeiten rechnen (besonders bei Gruppen).

Facts zur Gelmerbahn: Mit einer Steigung von 106 Prozent macht sie es sie zur steilsten offenen Seilbahn Europas. Sie wurde 1926 eröffnet und überwindet 450 Höhenmeter in nur 12 Minuten.
Wandern: Eine Wanderung rund um den Gelmersee ist ein absolutes Muss! In etwa 2 Wander-Stunden umrundest du den Stausee und blickst mit einem 360° Panoramablick die hochalpine Bergwelt. Entlang des Sees laden schöne Plätze zum verweilen und Erinnerungen machen ein.
Teils sind Trittsicherheit und Schwindelfreiheit erforderlich. Bachläufe können auch mal nasses Schuhwerk verursachen, weswegen Wanderschuhe Pflicht sind.
Runter vom Gelmersee bis Guttannen kannst du auch zu Fuss gehen. In ca. 1 Stunde und 30 Minuten bist du in Guttannen beim Parkplatz angekommen.
Um von Guttannen hochlaufen, musst du ca. 2 Stunden einbrechen.
Essen/Trinken: In Guttannen gibt es die Möglichkeit zu essen. Beim Gelmersee selbst kannst du nirgends etwas zu essen kaufen und es besteht auch keine Möglichkeit deine Flasche aufzufüllen (ausser aus dem frischen Quellwasser bei den Wasserfällen :)

Hiking: A hike around the Gelmersee is an absolute must! In about 2 hours of hiking you walk around the reservoir and see the high alpine mountains with a 360° panoramic view. Streams can sometimes cause wet shoes, which is why hiking boots are mandatory. You can also walk down from the Gelmersee to Guttannen. In about 1 hour and 30 minutes you have arrived at the parking lot in Guttannen. To walk up from Guttannen, you have to break in for about 2 hours. Eating/drinking: In Guttannen there is the possibility to eat. At the Gelmersee itself you cannot buy anything to eat and there is no possibility to fill up your bottle (except from the fresh spring water at the waterfalls :)
